Why Trade Me data is hard to get

Trade Me’s legacy API is limited and gated, so broad product coverage requires parsing the live site. trademe.co.nz mixes auction and fixed-price formats, time-boxed bidding and region-scoped listings, and applies commercial bot defences — rate limiting, session validation and markup changes. The older developer API exists but does not give general competitor-pricing access at scale.
