Trade Me product data API

The ShopAPIS Trade Me product data API returns NZD pricing, listing type (auction vs Buy Now), current bid and reserve status, item condition, seller details, region and shipping for any trademe.co.nz listing ID — as clean JSON. Because Trade Me is effectively a national marketplace, a single parser gives you near-complete visibility into New Zealand e-commerce, classifieds and general-goods pricing.

Trade Me is New Zealand’s #1 marketplace and a near-monopoly, spanning general goods, autos, property and jobs. It carries ~7M live listings, draws ~40–56M monthly visits, and reports ~US$1.35B revenue that is 99% NZ-derived, with Hobby & Leisure its largest goods category at ~22%. One parser here owns an entire country’s marketplace data.

Why Trade Me data is hard to get

Trade Me’s legacy API is limited and gated, so broad product coverage requires parsing the live site. trademe.co.nz mixes auction and fixed-price formats, time-boxed bidding and region-scoped listings, and applies commercial bot defences — rate limiting, session validation and markup changes. The older developer API exists but does not give general competitor-pricing access at scale. ShopAPIS handles routing, session and parse maintenance and normalises auctions and Buy Now offers into one NZD schema, capturing live bid state where it matters. Parse difficulty here is medium.
